My New Favorite Treat - Cacao Shake

I have just recently discovered cacao powder. Well, not really discovered it, but finally I have given it a try and I must say I really like it. Here is my go to treat right now, a cacao shake. It helps me get through the day feeling energized and satisfied. I often take this to work for lunch and it works great for me. 

 

The benefits of cacao are many. Just to name a few, it has 40 times the amount of antioxidants than blueberries, it is a good plant based source of iron,  contains more calcium than cow's milk, boots your mood, and combats depression. Sounds like a cupful of bliss to me, and tastes like one too.

 

 

What you need:

 

One cup of almond milk

One tablespoon cacao powder

One scoop of vanilla protein powder (I use MRM Veggie Protein)

One tablespoon of date syrup (I make my own. Recipe at the bottom.)

Sprinkle of cinnamon

Splash of pure vanilla extract

 

I put it all in a blender bottle, shake it up, and go.

 

You can also put it in a high powered blender and add more to it like nuts, oats, bananas, and other such things if you choose.

Experiment and see what you like.

That is part of the journey of changing your diet to healthier choices, experimenting with trial and error, trying new things and finding what ones you like, vs. what you don't like. 

 

Date Syrup is really easy to make and will last in the fridge for up to two weeks. 

 

What you need:

 

One orange freshly juiced

One small apple freshly juiced

One cup of chopped dates

Freshly squeezed lemon juice from half a lemon

 

Blend in blender until creamy and fully blended.

Put into a glass jar with tight fitting lid and store in fridge.

Can be used in place of sugar for many different recipes.

Using date syrup in place of sugar you are getting a good amount of fiber which prevents blood sugar spikes, it also contains calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, thiamin, and vitamin K from the dates themselves. That way you are sweetening things with real nutritional value. in which refined white sugar does not have. It is also made yourself so you know how it was made and processed. No worries there right?
